The Independence Day weekend is gearing up for a titanic box office battle between two high-profile releases: “Coolie”, starring the legendary Rajinikanth, and the much-anticipated YRF Spy Universe thriller “War 2”, headlined by Hrithik Roshan and Jr NTR.
“Coolie” has surged ahead in overseas advance bookings, topping $1 million (~₹8 crore) in North America. Trade sources report it has amassed around $4 million globally, outpacing “War 2” by a large margin.
In India, “Coolie” raked in around ₹3.7 crore gross in advance bookings by early afternoon of its launch day, primarily fueled by strong demand in Tamil Nadu, Kerala, and Karnataka. Still, it needs a 390% growth to breach the top 5 advance booking records of 2025.
On the other hand, “War 2” has yet to open its pre-sales in India but is slated to begin bookings on Sunday, August 10, just four days ahead of release. Its overseas performance remains modest—roughly $330,000 in pre-sales, notably behind “Coolie”.
